Bermuda Hosts Energy Transition Summit

Bermuda welcomed 20 energy professionals from 12 Caribbean nations for the Caribbean Energy Transition Academy Fellowship Summit.

A Government spokesperson said, “This week, Bermuda welcomes 20 energy professionals from 12 Caribbean nations for the week-long Caribbean Energy Transition Academy Fellowship Summit and is proud to have 3 participants representing the Bermuda Electric Light Company [BELCO].

“The Summit includes site visits to Bermuda’s solar and electric transportation projects, regional networking, capstone project presentation, and other experiential learning opportunities toward a more sustainable, clean energy future for the region.

“Participating countries include Turks and Caicos, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and a total of four participants from Bermuda:

  • Renée DeShields, Senior Customer Experience Representative, BELCO
  • Laureno Lima, Plant Operations Foreman, BELCO
  • Naji Pearman, Control Engineer, BELCO
  • Aran McKittrick, Research and Development Officer, Government of Bermuda – Department of Energy

“The Fellowship Summit is a key portion of RMI’s Energy Transition Academy Global Fellowship Program, which aims to fast-track the development of utility-driven renewable energy projects through targeted learning and experience exchange.

“Deputy Premier and Minister of Home Affairs Walter Roban and Acting Minister of Transport Vance Campbell [the substantive Minister of Tourism and the Cabinet Office] will present an overview of Bermuda’s energy transition efforts and the importance of leadership among Caribbean governments and utilities in advancing renewable energy as a key opportunity for building regional resilience and addressing climate change.”
